After the big storm last week, the orchard was so noisy that the sounds out there woke me in the night. I understand that there are toads in the desert that stay dormant and only appear after a rainfall, but I don't really know if these were toads or frogs. Please leave a comment if you know what I was hearing.
Because this video was shot at night, I didn't expect to capture much to see. I was really making the recording to get the amazing and very loud sounds. By the next night, the toad/frog songs were silent and all I could hear were the crickets.
However, we had another storm tonight (Sunday, when I'm writing this post for Monday) and the sounds are out there again.
This sounds like frogs to me.
ReplyDeleteWow, just read your harrowing storm survival story... Glad it is resolved and all over.
ReplyDeleteI have never heard anything quite like that! It went on all night? Hope you had air conditioning and could close up the house...or maybe it becomes a "white noise" after a while? Interresting!
ReplyDeleteI didn't take your advice a while back about the word verification and took it off my blog...it's back on now! Had a bad day yesterday.
Whoa, that is weird Clair... they don't even sound like frogs/toads. Such an odd sound. Visitors from Roswell, perhaps?!
ReplyDelete:)
Are you sure that's not the creature from the pecan lagoon?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the video--pretty creepy night noises. It would keep me up, for sure. Appreciate your sharing a bit of your world :O)
ReplyDeleteOH yeah the famous New Mexico Spadefoot Toads! They come out from the ground only when it rains to mate and lay eggs. We get a few of them in our pond every time it rains.
ReplyDeleteIf you find some puddles in a few days, look for their tadpoles. You'll find thousands of them growing in a pond or large puddle.
The kids used to gather up a few taddies and bring them home to watch grow.
They are a wonderful magical bonus to living in The Land of Enchantment :)
