Uncle Sam Loves Chile, for Skywatch

This really big guy stands outside Sparky's in Hatch, New Mexico. Sparky's is an important stop along New Mexico's Green Chile Cheeseburger Trail.

Since Hatch is considered The Chile Capital of the World, perhaps they can be excused for this piece of roadside kitsch.

Look, Skywatchers--there's our infinitely clear blue New Mexican sky in the background! To see skies all over the world, please visit Skywatch Friday.

  1. I've been away too long. Green Chili Cheeseburger trail!

I have to figure out how to pitch a pilgrimage to the family for a vacation idea.

  2. Clair,
This photo made me smile! I've been through Hatch twice, but somehow I missed this! It rained most of the night here... did you get some as well? I know you need it! I've been used to snow or sunshine, so it was rather nice to hear the pitter-pat of rain on the roof... spring is here!

  4. Hi there, Clair...sorry to have been out of touch. I'll have to confess...I adore roadside kitsch, and this one is quite magnificent. In fact, Tom and I hope to make a tour someday specifically to see wondrous sights like this. :-) I also love seeing yards full of gnomes, flamingoes, and other statuary. It just makes me feel happy.

  5. No rain, yet, Becky. We ARE starting to get some clouds, though. We can hope!

  6. I tell ya, that would only happen in your part of the states. Where I live, we'd have a big rain drop in his hand or an apple.

  8. Hey, Clariz, thanks for stopping by and your comment and, yes, Sam Schnauzer goes with me -- couldn't move without him. He's going to love not having to share "his" space with anyone but me!!!

  9. By the way, Clair, I just noticed the quote by Robert Louis Stevenson at the bottom of your blog. It made me cry a little bit because it was one my mama's favorite sayings---she said it almost every day---and I hadn't heard it since the last time she said it before she passed all those years ago. Thanks for that reminder---so true.

  23. Oh yeah!!! I actually did a 'flashback' post for Skywatch once. Used a picture I had taken of of Hatch -- chiles drying on the roof of the pink shop.

Nothing like NM, we loved every bit of it!
