What's Not to Love, for Skywatch

Here in southern New Mexico, land of

little rain
big sky
and sizzling green chile

We love our water
We love our blue skies
And we love our chile fields

When we see all three together
We stop and take pictures

*****

See beloved skies all over the world at Skywatch Friday

Glad you got some of the wet stuff. These are wonderful vistas for New Mexicans.
I must have angered the rain gods cuz we (my neighborhood) hasn't gotten anything except sprinkles. Other parts of Burque got great buckets and splashes, but alas, I musta been a bad girl. Linda

There's going to be one heck of a pile of chilis when that crop comes in. I have one thai chili and one habanero plant in this years garden lol!

Clair, I just LOVE this post! :)
BTW, on my way back in Aug, I plan to drive thru Hatch- I believe it was "Sparky's" that you said had the best green chile cheese burger- am I correct?

clairz said...

Yes, Becky. Don't miss Sparky's! When you order a green chile cheeseburger they just call out to the cook: "One world's best!" Don't forget the green chile cheese fries. And the pineapple cole slaw. Oops, and the green chile mango shake. That ought to hold you!

These are great shots! I was just in Northern New Mexico and I think it's a beautiful state.

You have got that exactly right Clair! (Travelers would stop and take that picture too... because we love all those things as well).

Beautiful and the skies are so blue.

That looks like a lot of water. Farmers happy?

clairz said...

Birdman, nope--the farmers are desperate for water. Their allotment from the irrigation district was something like 1/12 of what they would get in a normal year, and they still have to pay the same amount and then pay to pump from ground wells (or buy well water from neighboring farms). It's a dry, dry year.

Central Market puts on a Hatch Chili festival every year. These shots assure me that it's not far off, and maybe makes the summer feel a little shorter. Maybe.

It's a good thing them there peppers can take a bit of drought--mine are about the only denizens of the garden that haven't completely given up the ghost.

I can almost smell the aroma of green chili being roasted here in town! Thank you for you wonderful comment.

Beautiful shots, but what a waste of water where there is little rain! Flood-irrigation was phased out here quite some time ago. Water is a precious resource here and not to be wasted in needlessly being evaporated in this way.
