Are those eyes glowing out there? |
We all know that there is something coming here in southern New Mexico. When October arrives, the air feels a little chilly to our spoiled desert bones and the chihuahuas burrow down under the sheets at night. As we shrug on sweaters and search out long-stored blankets and pajamas, we anticipate the smell of autumn fires.
We warm ourselves up with chiles for breakfast.
We ready our ofrendas (memorial altars to the departed) and look forward to the Dia de los Muertos celebrations later this month. Front yards take on a new look: Skeletons abound, chile ristras glow red, and ghosts dance on fences.
Something is coming. Something good.

Wow - love the drama and golden tones!
Lovely sunrise, Clair. Yes, would you believe I had to get the ice scraper out last week to scrape my windows before work?! It's warmed back up now, but winter is on the way. Something good is coming- I like that.
So much drama indeed! Love the colors and what a terrific start to the day -- any day! And, yes, the season approaches with its chill and beautiful colors! Marvelous capture as always, Clair! Hope you have a great weekend!

Great shot! Haven't participated in sky watch for awhile but hope to have one up in a day or two :-)
Wonderful view of golden sky.
What an artsy shot, the whole thing looks like a mask!
Sounds like you really enjoy October and early November! The sky shot is lovely.
Oh my gush, I can't believe this one, this is fantastic!!! Like this one.

If they are eyes, they are sinister eyes indeed!
SKY-SEEKERS
The sky-seekers, some people say,
Do not favor night over day;
They always look up,
The sky is their cup,
And keeping it full is just play!

A beautiful photo, Clair. I love the deep blue-grey of the cloud.

I thought, Wow, such a beautiful sky, she really captures the good ones. Then I read about the eyes, and thought, Dang, something's out there watching her all the time...spooky!! You crack me up, Clair!
so dramatic.

I love this time of year in the desert. Something is definitely coming, cooler weather! Absolutely beautiful shot.
Love the picture, but love the post even more. The seasonal changes are what we look forward to when we're suffering through hot hot summers and cold cold winters (well maybe not a scold as some). It's downright chilly here this morning, so the cat will be snuggling tonight (he's slept on the screen porch all summer). The dogs are frolicking, and I heard honkers heading south this morning. I still wish I were in New Mexico, though!
That's a perfect dramatic picture heralding change and as you say good things to come!
On our first RV trip away from the PNW. we arrived in Santa Fe near Halloween (Dio de Los Muertes). I never wanted to leave -- fell head over heels in love with the place. But we did, in case there were more beautiful places to see (and there were). But that stay completely convinced me that the traveling lifestyle was the right one for us!
Mmm, I loved your descriptions of fall. And your photo colors my world this evening!
