Darkness.
Long nights.
Cold mornings.
We do what we can to make the winter days and nights warmer and more colorful
with bright quilts and blankets
and colorful, cozy woolen socks;
with family laughter and warm friends
while we are waiting for the light.
Here's to light and color and warmth and family and good friends.
Happy Winter Solstice to you all!

We need color and light this time of year.
We do indeed need all the color and light we can get these days! We actually have sun and blue skies today and I'm loving every minute as I sit at my desk watching the happy birds. It will be dark by 4:25 this afternoon and we won't see daylight until after 8 in the morning! But I'll take it when I can get it! Wishing you and your family a warm, colorful, beautiful Merry Christmas, Clairz!!

This is the most beautiful Winter Solstice greeting I've ever seen. I'm smiling and sending happy thoughts in your direction.
And a happy winter solstice to you, Clair :)
Love seeing cactus & snow :)
Looks like all is merry & bright in La Cruces!
Oooh! That last photo is gorgeous! Would make the perfect header shot, too!
2 feet of snow on the ground here now, and it's still falling.

Gorgeous light on the shortest day of the year. I love the winter solstice as it promises the return of the light.

Such a beautiful desert sunset you captured! I also like the photo of your dog. Have a great Christmas!
Thank you for your colourful holiday greetings. The quilt and socks are certainly lovely!
Whether you celebrate or not, I wish you a joyful season. We have lots for which we can be thankful here in the USA, given the situations in other countries. My fervent wish is that we don't forget charitable impulses throughout the coming year.
Cheers for 2012!
Oh my, Clair, those quilts are so pretty. And the socks! Socks like that would make my feet so happy. Makes me wish I could knit.
I'm too late to wish you either a Happy Solstice or a Merry Christmas, but I will say, "Happy New Year!" All the best to you and those you love (both two-legged and four) in 2012.
