A more daring photographer would have leaned out further, but I just couldn't manage to do so! |
We just got back from a trip to California and I wanted to share this vertigo-inducing photo with you. It was taken from the 21st floor looking down to the third floor of the J.W. Marriott Union Square Hotel, where our daughter was staying. You can see a photo gallery of the hotel here.
We were just down the street in the far more modest but historical boutique hotel, the King George, which was built in 1914. You can see photos of the King George here.
Both place were centrally located and we never took our cars out while staying there. We walked (and walked, and walked!) to North Beach and Chinatown and all around the Financial District. When our destination was too far for walking, we took a cable car or a street car.
I will share more about our trip in upcoming posts.

Yikes!!! Vertigo indeed, but what a great shot!! Hope you had a great trip, Clairz!!
Great shot!
I loved San Fran. Have been there a few times. I'm not so sure I could walk there anymore (bad knees) as I remember a lot of hills.
Oh a lovely shot! Glad you didn't lean over further -- it already amde me dizzy! But beautiful. What a wonderful trip. Love San Francisco (been a long time). Walking and public transportation is THE way to go there!
Reminds me of Hitchcock! And the King George looks charming. But I don't understand the photo of the soap...?
"I don't understand the photo of the soap:" Auntie Bucksnort is talking about one of the photos on the King George Hotel page. The soap they provide is the size of a regular bar of soap, but the middle is missing. So it's kind of a hollow ring of soap. Strange, Unusual.
I could never have taken that photo. I like it though ...
The two hotels look nice. I've only driven through SF (never stayed) while on road trips.
I missed the soap part so now I'll have to go back and look.
