Camel Skies for Skywatch

Sometimes in eastern New Mexico the sky is just blue--lots and lots of nice clear blue, and we're not complaining. Since I'm bringing you such plain blue skies for Skywatch, I'm including a camel. Why not?

Camel says howdy

Camel gets kiss

Camel expresses delight

Camel moseys home

For skies, plain and otherwise, from all over the world be sure to visit Skywatch Friday.

That camel is so cool! Love the photo. I am pretty sure that that is the same camel that Greg and I saw just come out of nowhere (actually a field) with a rider on its back, making an entrance in the location of Wrangler and Jeanne! It certainly made an entrance. We all stood around with our mouths open. It felt like we had stepped into the set of 1001 Arabian Nights.

Have a great weekend!

I don't know why I should be surprised that there are camels in your neck of the woods - after all, there is an ostrich farm just down the road from us in southern UK! Great shots - the camel looks remarkably affable - I guess it must be something to do with lots of gentle handling?

What a neat series of photos. Is that you kissing the camel? Hey, blue sky is fine with me.

That's my sister, the famous Auntie Bucksnort, kissing the camel. We actually didn't know whether or not he was affable until she surprised us all (not least the camel) by kissing him. Turns out he loved it!

She's the risk taker; I'm the photo taker. Somewhere on this blog there is a photo of a tarantula patting her shoe with love. My own shoe was anxiously hopping up and down while I was taking the picture from a safe distance.

I wonder who/what I could get her to kiss for the next Skywatch? Suggestions welcome.

What a delightful series of photos! That's the happiest camel I've ever seen, and I had no expectation of seeing one in New Mexico at all.

We've named him Blinky in honor of his long beautiful eyelashes (and in honor of my grandchildren because I forwarded the kissing photo on to them with a little story attached. And of course when a three-year-old and a six-year-old see a picture of a camel being kissed, they're going to expect that he has a cute storybook name to go along with his cute storybook personality).

Blinky is a big goofy sweetheart and I can't wait for the next time we stop by for a visit. Of course he wanted to kissed. Who wouldn't? Thank you, big sister, for capturing some of the more outré joys of skywatching in Clovis, New Mexico.

Let's bring along carrots next time. They have carrots on the Sahara, right? I'm sure they must have them at one of those palmy oasis's. Maybe we should take him a long cool drink of water too. We can pour it into a big decorative Egyptian bowl from a big decorative Egyptian pitcher. I wonder if he'd like a date or a fig. We could weave him a beautiful multi-colored tasseled halter too, with a visor of course. So many plans to make for upcoming Exotic Skywatch Fridays.

How funny, that's definitely something I'd expect to see a lot closer to my home than to yours. Better from a distance though, they're nasty spitty animals up close.

I can empathize with your homesickness for New England. Every time I spend a summer back in the Northeast and then head home to the late summer drab browns of Israel's dry season it takes some serious readjustment - then winter hits New England while I'm sitting in a sidewalk cafe and I'm happy again ;-).

Clair: Such a neat view of the camel sky. My only encounter with a camel in a cage at a zoo was that it tried to bite me.
