We hardly ever see any bees around, so I was pretty excited when this fellow (gal?) started visiting the vitex (Texas lilac) tree I planted this year. I only ever see one at a time, and he seems to live somewhere out in the pecan orchard. I know that this is a strangely lit shot--I was shooting into the sun because I wanted to get that bee right then before he/she flew away.
I worry that the orchard spraying program will harm him. You can read an article here that suggests some reasons as to why honeybees are disappearing. It's a huge problem.

A very precious bee. We used to take them for granted, but they are under attack from all sorts of things, some man-made, some other insect predators. Your tree is obviously doing a good job.
You go, Little Bee!
We still get bees but it does seem like not as many as in years past. Course I'm not one to play with them too much.
Love your photo though ...
Clair, he looks GIANT in your photo! I read the article... it is troubling. I think it was Einstein that said something about when the bees are gone, so are we.
That bee must like lilacs as much as I do. They are my favorite flower. My mother had them all around the yard and they remind me of my childhood. They smell so good. Love the photo.
Strangely enough, we had quite a influx of both bees and butterflies this summer; I don't know why. I know, though, that in general, bee populations are being compromised. Scary thing.
