I'm having a little trouble blogging lately, mainly because we are doing so many bloggable things! Painting, exploring, reading, knitting, hiking, digging in the desert, gardening, playing with the chickens, and going to lectures and art walks and museums and craft shows and plays and concerts.
For now, I will share my new kitchen curtains, made of vintage handkerchiefs I've been collecting for a while. Some were embellished by hand, and some by machine. Some belonged to my mother and were kept in her cedar chest, which is now mine. Some were from Goodwill and the Salvation Army stores, stapled together in bundles with a "ten cents" sticker. And one was a real find!
After making the these curtains, I was so pleased with it that I put together another for the front door. The photos below show details from that curtain. I was surprised to see that one of the hankies, obviously embroidered by a child, showed the same initials--JLH--as my sister's name. It had gotten into the pile of thrift store hankies, but turned out to be actually done by our own Auntie Bucksnort and lovingly preserved by my mother for many decades.

It certainly does sound like you are doing a lot of blog post worthy things! I can imagine you are having a lot of fun while you're at it ;-)
The vintage hanky curtain is very nice and Aunty B's find is a real treasure. She had a talent I see for embroidery.
Have a wonderful Sunday afternoon.
I always dreamed of being called Baby Bucksnort!!
Oh my goodness....you collection of vintage hankies is fabulous. I have used most of mine from years ago as hankie dolls for brides....some left but not many. I just love the look of your curtains. Can hardly wait to see what other wonders you have for us to see. Oma Linda
I love that you've done that.
I used to do a bit of needlepoint back before my shoulder told me no no no.
I handmade all our Holiday stockings and did a few wedding gifts .. napkins and runners.
Now, I'm just working on another holiday stocking. That is if my shoulder lets me finish.
Beautiful! Your talent (and your sister's) ... amazing. I don't relate to the talent (I have none) but I do relate to having trouble blogging because you're busy doing bloggable things. I love that -- it's so true!
the curtains remind me of my hankie collection which would never make it into such a cute project because I'm too busy blowing my nose into them!
hankies are the best for allergies, but they make pretty cute curtains, too.
Hi Clair!
Sounds like you have been busy doing many wonderful things! Perfect! Keep at it :)
Love that your curtains were made lovingly by hand...
Hi, Clair. I'm glad to know that it's happy happenings that are keeping you from blogging about them!
I've always loved old hankies like that (I have quite a few that my aunt gave me), and I love what you've done with them. I can see that you and Auntie Bucksnort share a talent for handiwork.
Very creative, Clariz! The curtains look great and they're a great conversation piece!
Back in Minnesota but still blogging on SF blog for a few more days. Trip back was harrowing with two very close calls on the highway involving a 5-car-pile-up plus a near collision with a huge sofa that had fallen on the Interstate from a pick-up truck. Sad to be back, tho. Cold, damp and gloomy!
Just got your latest message. Doggone it; Michael McGarrity! Guess I should move??
Sure miss SF!!
Love your window treatment!
