| Just a dusting of snow |
No, we're not having snow this month here in the Chihuahuan Desert. It's hot, and we're nearing the end of our monsoon season. Out here in the agricultural areas north of Las Cruces, it's apparently prime time for mosquitoes and flies. And of course, it's pretty darned hot (oops, I mentioned that before!), so I've been avoiding the outdoors and have been seeking quiet, contemplative pastimes, like a furious and sweaty "spring" cleaning of every room, every surface--go figure!
Long story short, I dug around in the files for these photos from last winter, which were taken facing the front porch.
I really love the thought right now of those crisp, cold days when we could smell the delicious aroma of the piñon fires burning in the kiva fireplace. Let's face it, some people are never satisfied with the weather they have!

Is this really snow? You get snow in the winter??
I'll have to admit----I, too, have been thinking longingly of winter. Despite the fact that I endlessly whined and moaned about the endless snow and ice and cold and mud last winter. Just like I'm endlessly whining now about the horrible and oppressive heat and humidity we've had this summer. :-)
We get between one and two inches average in December and January, Deb. It's the best kind of snow--usually gone by mid-morning. Last winter it seems like we got more and could see snow on the mountains a lot of the time. See A Day with the Organ Mountains, a post from last December for what they looked like.
Have to admit that I'm not ready for winter because we haven't really had much summer and it's already the middle of August! But I do love your vivid blue winter skies! Terrific shots as always! Hope you have a lovely weekend, Clair! Enjoy!

Winter ... don't even say it. I want a nice Summer day in the low 70's with a slight breeze ... to last forever.
This muggy too hot stuff is crazy. Crazy I tell ya.
Only I'm going to get 200 days of clouds and rain ... I so need to move.

I've seen snow once when I went to New York and let's just say that cold weather like that only appeals to me on occasional visits. It's very nice to photograph snow, though. We don't get cold as that in the bay area, so me & my throbbing knees are thankful. :)
I much prefer to be cold than hot, it is easy to bundle up and stay warm. That's why we keep running off to cooler places in the summer. At 9600', it is never hot at our Sierra hide-a-way.
We sure could use a cool down here in Southeast Missouri, too! It's been sooo stinkin hot!!!

Let me grovel at your feet for posting a 'snow' photo! It is stifling here which makes me verrryyy grouchy. Who needs the heat except the crops!

You know, I just was thinking about ski season a couple days ago when it was hot here. Then we got an inch of hail and it really didn't help my garden very much... LOL You did make me feel cooler tho'. Love your roof!!
Hehehehe makes me freak out a little bit I thought you really had a snow, because that means here in MI we are going to have one too haha! Happy Friday!
