When Knitting Needles Dream

My mother believed in the dreams of flowers and animals. Before we went to bed at night as small children, she would reveal to us in her storytelling voice that salmon dreamed of mountain passes and the brown faces of grizzlies hovering over clear rapids. Copperheads, she would say, dreamed of placing their fangs in the shinbones of hunters. Ospreys slept with their feathered, plummeting dreamselves screaming through deep, slow-motion dives toward herring. There were the brute wings of owls in the nightmares of ermine, the downwind approach of timber wolves in the night stillness of elk.

~Pat Conroy, The Prince of Tides

When knitting needles dream, I believe they find themselves sliding through the silky merino wool of Mini Mochi yarn, perfect partners in the making of...

more socks for me!

Here is the colorway Bodega Bay that I just got in the mail from Jimmy Beans Wool.

And here is my shot of northern California's Bodega Bay itself. I think you will agree that the Crystal Palace people did a nice job in naming that yarn color.

That is lovely yarn---I agree that it is well-named. And I love that quote. It makes me want to read the book.

I'll bet your feet dream of wearing those soft, silky socks...
:-)

Love the colors (although you'd have to knit it for me!)....Pat Conroy is such a wonderful writer -- nature as well as people come alive for him! I read one of his books when we were staying in the South Carolina low country; that was a great experience to see what he was writing about.

I checked to see how your walk was coming -- I always meant to do something like that. I've really enjoyed keeping track of my books read -- there's something so satisfying about knowing how many.....

Beth, my feet will have their sock dreams when the weather is a lot cooler than now!

Sallie, the walking was going great until we got to this run of 100-degree weather. I'm in survival mode now--not moving much at all--and hope to start up again when the early mornings get cool.

that's amazing - how well they matched the colors. I would want a scarf for my neck with that, my feet don't warrant such beauty! have fun knitting it Claire. love the new header image too.

I'll say... it's remarkable how similar the shades of the yarn are to those of the Bay! Wow. Now wouldn't that be a fun job? Naming yarn colors? :)
