Lunch at Delicias del Mar

I was brought up on tacos made with beef, so the idea of fish tacos just never really interested me. And then, Beez and I finally tried them in a little restaurant in Sacramento a few years back and we loved them. We were never able to find that restaurant again, though...

I've already told you about eating breakfast at Delicias Cafe in Las Cruces; this time we tried the fish tacos a la mexicana (with the fresh Mojarra filets grilled, not fried) at their sister restaurant, Delicias del Mar--click the link for the complete menu. We are so glad we went and will go back often.

This under-$10 lunch was huge--in addition to everything that you see here, there was a good-sized bowl of a spicy tomato, fish, and vegetable soup. Of course, any time soup is served, I worry that I won't have enough room for the meal and try to just take a couple of tastes. However, this soup was so delicious that I really wanted to finish the bowl, and figured we could pack up what we couldn't eat of the main meal to take home. Days later, we are still eating out of those to-go boxes.

Something new to me was the sweet corn salsa, served along with the regular hot red salsa and fresh tortilla chips.

I've never seen mashed potatoes served with a dish like this. I can almost hear the waiter saying "would you like some carbs with that?" It all looks scrumptious, though, and that olive is a nice touch.

WOW! That meal looks just wonderful. Now, I will have to go make some lunch. I am starving. I always had beef tacos, too. Your photos of the food are great!

Very tasty looking. The avocado and mashed potato are familiar to me, but not the rest!

Had my first and last (cuz I haven't been there again) fish taco at a chain store, Taco del Mar. It was good and then I figured the tortilla is just something to fill up with stuff, whether it be red meat, white meat or no meat. Works for me!

An olive on a pile of mash potatoes...now that is new!

Looks delish! I've enjoyed checking out your blog... it looks like you are living the good life!!! How long did you live in Clovis? Funny thing.. I just got here saturday & will be working here for the next month. Wow, I have never lived where it is so flat before! I've been down to Blackwater Draw... any other tips on things to do in the area?

Becky, you are in Clovis? How did I miss that part on your blog?

We moved there from NH as a way to get back to NM, where we had lived for a year in the 90s. We were there for a couple of years. Check out the early parts of my blog, where I was busy going everywhere, looking at everything, and determined to see the best side of Clovis.

I will be interested to see your impressions as you get to know the place. Hope you will be blogging lots about your experiences.
