Heading West for Skywatch Friday

Having lived for so long in New England, I have always found that the sight and sound of a long freight train means WEST to me.

We saw this train rumbling along under stormy skies, somewhere in central New Mexico. For photos from all parts of the compass, be sure to visit Skywatch Friday.

Moody skies and the train and the empty spaces really set the tone! Great composition and a great shot! Love it, Clairz!

Happy SSS!

There is something whimsical about the sound of a train and these clouds are a great backdrop for the red.

I love a train under a beautiful sky.

That's some thick clouds hovering the train's route. And good for a skywatch photo show.

Captivating. The clouds seem to draw me into the image while the fence keeps me from leaving.

Sadly, it means southeast to me, as I wait to pass a road... late getting back to work. Here, there are highways (with major traffic) with tracks cutting across.

A thing that struck me about trains in the west was the lack of graffiti. What a nice sight that was to see.

I really love your photo. New Mexico itches me, just as Georgia said. Haven't been in a few years, but you put me there this morning. thank you

I'm very fond of trains. Canadian National and Via Rail travel the tracks throuh my town, and Canadian Pacific tracks are a bit south of me....but I never tire of seeing trains. ;-)

This is gorgeous and brings back memories for me as I was born in SE NM & lived there off and on as a kid. Always loved it's big sky.

Since Emerson and Thoreau, Americans have constructed trains as romantic engines of hope, the frontier, and the longing for harmony with nature. After the cloistered hills of the Northeast, may you find joy in the great wide open of the West.
