Let's Hear It For the Underdog

This is Weetzie.
I found her at a kill shelter; it was to have been her last day.
After seeing her crouched in her cage, I promised her that I would take her home.
I had to leave her for a few minutes to fill out the paperwork, but I kept my promise and went back to the cage.

When I reached for her, she growled at me

I'll always be glad that I didn't let that change my mind.
The attendant lifted her into my arms and I took her home, wrapped in a little blanket. I bathed her and wrapped her in a towel and sat with her for a while in the rocking chair.

She is a loving member of our family and we can't imagine not having her with us.

She still growls when she is picked up and when she first wakes up in the morning.
We have had so many laughs with her, because those growls are so at odds with her loving nature and sweet personality.

I guess I am asking you to give these abandoned shelter dogs a chance.
Scary things have happened to them, and sometimes they just need a little peace and quiet to show you who they are.

Wheetzie is a sweetheart. Sure she sounds like a chupacabra when she lets loose with one of her "warning - vicious little monster disguised as a dog" growls, but she's never, to my knowledge, ever followed through with a bite.

And who am I to judge... I snarl like a demon if you get between me and my morning coffee.

I think sometimes I am like Weetzie... I growl when my alarm clock goes off in the morning! OK, maybe not out loud, but that's how I feel! She's very cute. If I shall ever get a permanent home, I shall keep this mind when I am finally able to get a pet. You're a life saver, Clair!

her "weetz-itude" helps keep all of us, human or furry, in line........

Several of my cats were saved by rescue groups who go in and take who they can on their last day. Both Meredith Ann and Jasmine Marie were on their last day.

I saw Riley on petfinder. He was found in a box with his siblings in a school play yard. I told myself if he (they advertised him as a she) was still there (I had business near the rescue place that day)I would take him (her) home. And, I did.

Absolutely true about giving them time in a safe place to show their true colors. I've had two such fur babies.
Weetzie is a lucky girl.

Well, does she growl at you BEFORE or AFTER her coffee?

She looks and sounds like a sweetheart. I so wish I could have a little dog like her. Sadly, where I live they do not permit it in the by-laws of the condo. So glad you were able to rescue her.
